Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead in added sugar. You also include several relevant figures, such as lunch’s 29% sodium and 26% saturated fat, and the 42% added sugar in snacks. However, the report is under the required 150 words, and the coverage is consequently limited. The overview could compare the full pattern more clearly: breakfast is lowest for all three nutrients, while dinner is lowest for added sugar only in comparison with snacks? In fact, breakfast is lowest for sodium, and breakfast and saturated fat are both 16%; added sugar is lowest at breakfast. Develop these comparisons accurately and include the remaining key figures to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, understandable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing meal-specific details. This helps the reader follow the main comparisons. However, progression is limited because several points are presented as short, separate statements, often beginning with “And,” and “However.” These connectors do not always show a clear relationship between the information. The sentence beginning “Breakfast has lowest…” is followed by a fragment-like contrast with lunch, and the final paragraph repeats the overview about dinner and snacks. Grouping the figures by nutrient or by the highest and lowest meal would create a clearer progression. Use fewer linking words, and connect comparisons directly within well-formed sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “sodium,” “saturated fat,” and “added sugar,” so the reader can understand the subject. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “average percentage content” and “this meal consist of 23 percentage.” Repetition of “highest percentage” and “content” also makes the report less flexible. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “sodim,” “higest,” “sautrated,” “percetage,” and “Wheareas,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “accounted for” or “made up” to describe a share, and use “proportion” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error: “The given pie-charts illustrates” should be “The pie charts illustrate.” There are further agreement and form problems in “snacks contains” and “this meal consist,” as well as missing articles in “Breakfast has lowest percentage.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: “Overall, both sodium and saturated fat content are highest in dinner. And, snacks…” is awkwardly divided, while “Whereas,.lunch” contains incorrect punctuation and creates a fragment. Try combining related comparisons with accurate clauses, and proofread agreement, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
