Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. You also include several relevant figures, such as 43% for dinner sodium and 42% for snack sugar, and compare meal categories. This gives the response a clear overview and addresses the chart. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: saturated fat at breakfast is 16%, not “just over a quarter” (26% is lunch), and the sentence describing these figures is difficult to interpret. The claim that breakfast has the least proportion of all nutrients is also not fully accurate, since breakfast and snacks tie for the lowest sodium share. More precise reporting of these comparisons would strengthen an otherwise relevant summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of sodium and sugar, with saturated fat included in the middle paragraph. The overview helps the reader identify the main trends. However, progression is uneven because the second body paragraph moves between sodium and saturated fat, and its final comparison is hard to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Followed by,” and “by looking at” are used, but some sound mechanical or do not clearly connect the information. Paragraphing is present, though the body could be organised more logically by comparing all three nutrients across meals, or by grouping the meal patterns. Clearer references and transitions would make the relationships easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “average percentages,” “highest proportion,” “accounted for,” and “consumption,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording when describing peaks and comparisons. However, spelling errors such as “ecception,” “nutirents,” “hugher,” and “acconted” are noticeable, and several expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “health disease,” “same portion,” and “at snacks was its highest level.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison less clear. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “the proportion of sodium” and “the figure for snacks,” and check spelling carefully. A more controlled range of precise chart language would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more developed sentence forms, and the overview uses a useful contrast between dinner and snacks. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with errors in articles, sentence structure, agreement, and punctuation. For example, “dinner accounted for highest proportion” needs an article, while “At luch it was accounted for just under a third” has an unclear subject and awkward passive construction. The sentence beginning “Followed by saturated fats” is a fragment, and “at snacks was its highest level” lacks a clear grammatical subject. Extra spaces before punctuation and missing sentence boundaries also affect readability. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles and clause structure before adding more complex forms.
