IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The three pie charts illustrates the average percentage of different nutrients such as sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in four typical meals of the day consumed in the United States.

Overall we can see that breakfast and lunch were not very unhealthy, snacks were mainly sweet and dinner had most amount of salt in it.

The first meal of the day, breakfast had low level of all mentioned unhealthy nutrients in it, such as 14% sodium, 16% saturated fats and added sugar.

Then comes the second meal which is lunch, it had only 29% sodium, 26% saturated fats and only 19% added sugar. Added sugar was mainly high in snack, which had other nutrients in less quantity such as 21% saturated fat and only 14% sodium.

Dinner was the last meal of the day in which US consumed most sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%) while less quantity of sugar (23%).
