Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the charts. You have successfully selected and reported the key data points for each meal type. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures rather than synthesizing the information effectively. For instance, the comparison in the snacks section is slightly confusing, as the data provided in the charts does not clearly support the '42%' figure mentioned. To improve, ensure that your comparisons are accurate and that you group data logically to highlight trends rather than just reporting individual percentages. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive by highlighting the most significant differences across all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In overview', 'Turning to the details', and 'Further' to transition between sections. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas is smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the overview and the body paragraphs could be strengthened to provide a more cohesive summary of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'delineate', 'calibrated', and 'percentage'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'addd' instead of 'added', and some awkward phrasing, such as 'consumption of having sodium'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate word forms. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more varied descriptive language to discuss the trends shown in the charts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'consumed more' (which is vague) and 'saturated fats is' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some inconsistencies in spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. While the errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Proofreading for small slips in grammar will help you achieve better accuracy.
