Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features and made relevant comparisons, the analysis is somewhat mechanical. You have successfully highlighted the key trends, such as the high consumption of sodium and saturated fat in dinner and the prevalence of added sugar in snacks. However, the data reporting is slightly confusing in the final paragraph, particularly regarding the grouping of percentages. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and double-check your data points to ensure clarity for the reader. The failure to reach the minimum length prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Similarly', and 'while', which help the flow of information. However, the progression of ideas in the final paragraph is slightly disjointed, and the referencing of data could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the specific details. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence transitions naturally into the next without relying on repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'nutrients', 'ingested', and 'constitute'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'major chunk' (which is informal) and 'pie-charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and avoid informal expressions. Ensure you proofread for basic errors like pluralization and subject-verb agreement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'The pie-charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'three different type' (pluralization), and 'saturated fat and added sugar is least found' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and consistent pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
