Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the report identifies the main features and attempts to make comparisons, the under-length nature of the response means that the analysis is not fully developed. Several data points are mentioned, but the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks the depth required for a higher band. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary that covers all categories across all meals, and expand on the comparisons between the nutrient types to ensure the response is sufficiently detailed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the overview and then to the specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive, with 'accounted for' and 'recorded' appearing frequently. The transition between sentences is functional but lacks variety. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus to enhance the overall structure of your report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'accounted for' and 'recorded' are used multiple times, which makes the writing feel mechanical. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To reach a higher band, you should aim to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms and more precise descriptive language. For example, instead of repeating 'accounted for', you could use 'comprised', 'constituted', or 'represented' to add variety and demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate and communication is not impeded, there are some minor issues with punctuation and sentence variety. For instance, the use of 'which was the lowest' is repeated, which makes the sentence structure feel predictable. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as participial phrases or relative clauses, and ensure that your punctuation is consistently correct. Focusing on sentence variety will help to make your writing more engaging and demonstrate a higher level of grammatical control.
