Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the key nutrients and their consumption patterns across meals. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 'over two-fifths of sodium proportion consume in dinner' is a misinterpretation of the data. Furthermore, the comparison between nutrients is occasionally confusing, such as the statement regarding the consumption of saturated fat and added sugar in lunch. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are clearly articulated rather than just listing percentages. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'While, added sugar highly consume in snacks' is grammatically fragmented and lacks a clear connection to the previous sentence. The transition between the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'furthermore' and 'in conclusion', the flow of ideas is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used correctly will enhance the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of incorrect word forms, such as 'saturated fay' (fat) and 'majorly consume' (consumed). The repetition of 'consume' and 'consumption' throughout the text limits the lexical range. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'proportion'. Additionally, be careful with spelling and word choice, as errors like 'majorly' and 'fay' detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement and verb tense, such as 'sodium proportion consume' instead of 'is consumed' and 'all mentioned nutrients are least consume' instead of 'are least consumed'. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically passive voice structures which are essential for describing charts, and ensure that your verbs match the subjects in number and tense.
