Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the charts. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the claim that nutrients are used in 'almost equal quantity' is not supported by the data, which shows significant variations. Furthermore, the summary of the data is slightly disorganized, and the overview lacks a clear synthesis of the trends. While all three nutrients are mentioned, the comparison between meals could be more precise. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview highlights the most significant differences rather than listing individual figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from an introduction to an overview and then to specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'In addition', 'To begin with', 'Moreover'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'similar quantity in snacks and lunch' which lacks a specific reference point. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band score. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'using' and 'taking', which are not the most appropriate collocations for describing dietary intake or nutrient consumption. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'people of USA' instead of 'people in the USA' or 'Americans'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'a significant proportion', or 'fluctuate'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the USA'), pluralization ('peoples'), and preposition usage ('in dinner' instead of 'at dinner'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency also need attention, such as 'Americans used' (past tense) when describing a general trend that should be in the present tense. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will help improve your score.
