Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the report. While the main features of the charts are identified, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview or synthesis of the data. The information is presented as a list of figures rather than a cohesive summary, and the failure to reach the length requirement means that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you provide a clear introductory summary and extend your analysis of the data trends to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical and lacks logical flow. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, making the text feel like a series of disjointed sentences rather than a coherent report. For example, the transition between the description of dinner and lunch is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your ideas and guide the reader through your analysis more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'consumsion', 'breafast', and 'paecentage', which occasionally hinder the reader's understanding. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning synonyms for common reporting verbs and nouns, and pay closer attention to the spelling of technical terms related to data analysis.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, and article usage (e.g., 'four time of meals in consumed', 'added sugar was more counsumsion'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. Errors are persistent and sometimes impede the clarity of the information presented. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors such as verb tense consistency and pluralisation.
