Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the highest and lowest values for each nutrient. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the charts. However, to reach a higher band, you should aim to make more sophisticated comparisons rather than simply listing the data for each category. For example, instead of stating the percentages for each meal individually, you could highlight that snacks are the primary source of added sugar, whereas dinner is the most significant contributor to sodium and saturated fat. This would demonstrate a more analytical approach to the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, a body paragraph for sodium and saturated fat, and a separate paragraph for added sugar. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'To commence with', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking phrases. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus to avoid jumping between nutrients, which will help improve the overall progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, such as 'proportion', 'consumption', and 'accounts for'. However, there are some repetitive phrases like 'contains' and 'percentage of'. To improve, try to use a wider variety of verbs and nouns to describe the data, such as 'comprises', 'constitutes', 'the majority of', or 'a significant portion'. Additionally, be careful with word choice; for example, 'pi chart' should be 'pie chart', and 'comes on second' is not standard collocation; 'ranks second' would be more appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'dinner contain' should be 'dinner contains', and 'in case of added sugar' is slightly unnatural; 'regarding added sugar' would be better. There are also minor issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'in typical foods all of which' (needs a comma) and 'at average' (should be 'on average'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
