Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons between the three nutrients across the four meal types. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the charts. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits your ability to fully develop the analysis or provide a more comprehensive summary. To improve, ensure you expand on the data points slightly more to meet the length requirement, as this is a key component of the task instructions. Despite this, the information provided is accurate and directly addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to each nutrient. You use transition words like 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'Regarding' to guide the reader through the data. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some cohesive devices are used mechanically. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraph structure is more balanced, perhaps by grouping the nutrients more effectively to create a more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'intake', and 'nutrients' correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'breakfast and lunch times contains' and 'al three nutrients'. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the sophistication or variety that would characterize a higher band score. To improve, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and synonyms for 'contains' or 'percentage' to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, there are missing articles ('in snack', 'at the lowest'), subject-verb agreement issues ('breakfast and lunch times contains'), and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas, such as '37% ,'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that your punctuation is consistent, particularly when listing data points.
