Student answer (Band 6.0)

This chart shows the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients , all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much . I am going to summarize the information as we can see that in USA the breakfast has 16% saturated fats and also same quantity of added sugar but sodium is present 14% in their breakfast.

On the other hand lunch their contains 26% saturated fats , 19% added sugar and 29% sodium which shows that sodium and saturated fats are near to equal amount.

The dinner contains a large amount of sodium as 43% and 37% saturate fats as well as 23% added sugar .

At last snacks include 21% saturated fats , 42% added sugar and 14% sodium. It means that snacks have a large amount of added sugar as compared to rest of the others.

So we can say that breakfast has all of three nutrients in near to equal amount , lunch has two of them close to each other and dinner contains added sugar in less amount as compared to others and at the end snacks has added sugar in highest quantity according to rest of the others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the three nutrients across four meal categories. However, the analysis is largely descriptive and lacks a clear overview or synthesis of the main trends. While you mention that snacks have the highest added sugar, you miss the opportunity to highlight broader patterns, such as the dominance of sodium in dinner or the relatively balanced distribution in breakfast. The report relies on listing figures rather than comparing them effectively. To improve, ensure you include a clear introductory overview that summarizes the most significant differences or similarities across the data sets.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'On the other hand', 'At last', 'So we can say'). The progression of ideas is a bit disjointed, as the conclusion simply restates the previous points rather than synthesizing them. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'all of three nutrients' is grammatically awkward and makes the comparison difficult to follow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely heavily on repeating the same terms ('nutrients', 'saturated fats', 'added sugar', 'sodium') without using synonyms or more sophisticated phrasing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'same quantity of added sugar' instead of 'an equal percentage of added sugar'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'a significant proportion', or 'the most prominent feature'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'lunch their contains' is incorrect, and 'near to equal amount' should be 'nearly equal amounts'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'in highest quantity according to rest of the others'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to detract from the overall quality. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will significantly improve your accuracy.
