Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately report the main features. The interpretation of the charts is flawed; for example, the student refers to 'sodium chart' or 'saturated fat' as if they are people, which leads to confusing and inaccurate statements like 'Saturated fat eat 37% of their dinner'. The overview is poorly constructed and does not clearly highlight the key trends or significant differences between the three nutrients. While the response covers the four meal categories, the data points provided are often incorrect or misattributed, making it difficult for the reader to understand the actual information presented in the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'They eat' or 'They consume' to start sentences. Referencing is unclear; the student frequently confuses the nutrients with the people consuming them, which disrupts the logical flow. The conclusion is also weak, merely stating that the charts have their own percentages without summarizing the main findings. The overall structure lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader effectively through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'USA peoples' instead of 'people in the USA' and 'added sughar' (spelling error). The student lacks the range of vocabulary necessary to describe data, such as verbs for trends (e.g., 'fluctuate', 'peak', 'account for') or nouns for comparison. The misuse of terms like 'bigger' or 'smaller' to describe percentages is imprecise. Frequent spelling errors, such as 'sughar' and 'brakfast', further detract from the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement is consistently problematic, for example, 'The chart illustrate' and 'Saturated fat eat'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic grammar often impede the clarity of the information being presented. The misuse of articles and pluralization is persistent, which limits the overall accuracy of the response.
