Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 106 words long. Furthermore, the response is incomplete; it cuts off mid-sentence while describing the saturated fat data and completely omits the section on added sugar. Because the response is unfinished and fails to report on all the data provided in the charts, it cannot fully address the task. To improve, you must ensure all categories are covered and provide a complete summary that includes all relevant data points before the word count limit is reached.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending and the failure to complete the analysis significantly disrupt the flow and coherence of the response. While some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'According to' are used, the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete nature of the final paragraph make the overall progression unclear. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that the response reaches a natural conclusion, maintaining a logical flow throughout the entire report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'proportion', 'nutrients', and 'accounted for' used correctly. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are minor issues, such as the missing preposition in 'that consumed in the USA' (should be 'that are consumed'). Because the response is incomplete, it is difficult to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, aim to use a broader variety of synonyms and precise reporting verbs, and ensure all sentences are grammatically complete.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are grammatical errors, such as the missing relative pronoun in the opening sentence ('that consumed' instead of 'that are consumed') and the incomplete sentence at the end of the text. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete nature of the writing makes it difficult to assess the full range of grammatical control. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and completing all sentences, while also attempting to vary sentence structures to demonstrate greater control.
