Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high sodium content in dinner and the high sugar content in snacks. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that breakfast and lunch contain the 'same quantity of nutrients' when the charts show distinct differences. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear, analytical comparison between the categories, relying instead on a list-like description of the percentages. To improve, ensure that the data points are accurately transcribed and that the comparison between the four meal types is more integrated and logical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'At the first glance' and 'At the second glance' are not appropriate for a formal report. Additionally, the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence structures limit the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several non-standard word choices, such as 'percentite' instead of 'percentage' and 'percentum', which is not standard English in this context. The range of vocabulary is limited, with frequent repetition of basic terms like 'include', 'contain', and 'amount'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise reporting verbs and nouns (e.g., 'account for', 'comprise', 'proportion', 'figure') and avoid invented or archaic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'sodium decreased' instead of 'sodium decreases'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'people wiling to eat'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be highly beneficial.
