Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the three nutrients and their distribution across four meal types. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the text states sodium is 43% at dinner, which is correct, but then claims snacks and breakfast are 'same consumed at 14%', while the chart shows 14% for snacks and 16% for breakfast. Furthermore, the description of sugar levels is highly disorganized and difficult to follow. The overview attempts to summarize the main features but lacks clarity, failing to highlight the most significant trends effectively. To improve, ensure data points are transcribed accurately and grouped logically to allow for easier comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'last but not the list' and 'respectively' used incorrectly at the end of sentences. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between nutrients. While there is an attempt at an overview, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a clear, distinct theme would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student frequently uses the word 'consumed' in contexts where it is grammatically or semantically inappropriate, such as 'Sodium consumed higher percentage'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'get meals' and 'done at 2nd position'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the repetitive nature of the vocabulary prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more varied verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'proportion', would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('The chart illustrate', 'percentages... is higher'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, leading to run-on sentences or fragmented thoughts. For instance, 'this all of may be not good for health' is grammatically incorrect. While the reader can generally understand the intended meaning, the high frequency of basic errors in tense, agreement, and word order indicates a need for significant improvement in foundational grammar and sentence construction.
