Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the highest values for sodium and saturated fat, the description of the data is often imprecise. For instance, stating that saturated fat in dinner and lunch is 'almost same as sodium' is inaccurate based on the visual data. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the interpretation of 'added sugar' is slightly confused. To improve, ensure you accurately report the percentages provided and group the data more logically to highlight key comparisons rather than listing figures in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the description of nutrients and the conclusion is abrupt. Cohesive devices are limited and sometimes used incorrectly, such as the phrase 'This, in conclusion', which is non-standard. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different meals. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall structure of your paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'avarage', 'nutrien', 'ammount', 'suger', and 'belenced'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited to simple descriptors, which prevents a more sophisticated analysis of the data. To improve, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and expanding your repertoire of synonyms to describe trends, such as 'significant', 'proportion', 'consumption', and 'fluctuate'. Precision in word choice is essential for reporting data accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'saturated fat which also is highest in dinner by 37 percent'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly the lack of commas to separate clauses, which makes some sentences run on. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the third nutrient is added suger'). To improve, practice constructing complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions and ensure you proofread for basic grammatical errors like verb tense consistency and pluralisation.
