Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the charts but fails to provide a clear overview or effectively compare the data. The information is presented in a fragmented way, focusing on individual data points rather than identifying key trends or significant differences between the nutrient types. For example, the report lists percentages for snacks and lunch without synthesizing the information to highlight which meal contributes most to the intake of each nutrient. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data is somewhat inaccurate, as the charts show the percentage of nutrients in a meal, not the percentage of the meal itself being eaten. The response lacks a summary of the main features, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While cohesive devices like 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are used, they are often applied mechanically and do not always create a natural flow between ideas. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the structure within paragraphs is repetitive, with almost every sentence starting with a similar subject-verb construction. The overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, but the lack of clear thematic grouping of the data makes the information difficult to digest.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'contain sugar in their ingredients' and 'harmful for individuals life' are repeated multiple times, which indicates a lack of lexical variety. There are also issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'sodium containing foods just like breakfast, dinner, lunch, snacks'. The range is sufficient to convey basic information, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for higher bands. To improve, you should use synonyms and more precise academic terminology to describe the data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often grammatically flawed, such as 'the dinners which contain high amount of saturated fat in their ingredients which are very dangerous'. There are frequent errors in article usage ('In USA'), subject-verb agreement, and prepositional phrases. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical errors and the limited range of structures prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.
