Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you attempt to summarize the data, the description is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that breakfast nutrients remain constant, which contradicts the visual data provided in the charts. The overview is poorly formulated and fails to highlight the most significant trends clearly. To improve, ensure you carefully analyze the data before writing and provide a clear, accurate summary of the main features, ensuring you reach the required length to fully develop your points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. The paragraphing is ineffective, and the progression of ideas is difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'Following this' and 'Finally'. The sentences are often disjointed, making it hard for the reader to track the comparison between the three nutrients across the four meal types. To improve, focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and linking your ideas with a wider variety of cohesive devices to create a smoother flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'high content' or 'slight changed' rather than more precise academic language. There are also issues with word formation and spelling, such as 'constent' instead of 'constant' and 'levls' instead of 'levels'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to data trends will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the content of sodium and saturated fats are reaches', and incorrect sentence structure, such as 'The pie chart despite the average percentage'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are pervasive throughout the text. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
