looking at sodium and saturated fat, the patterns were similar. dinner has the main source, providing 43% of sodium and 37% of saturated fat. lunch was the second largest contributor of both, at 29% and 265 respectively. snacks and breakfast made up much smaller proportions. for sodium, both accounted for 14%, while for saturated fat they were 21% and 16%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided relevant comparisons between the three nutrients. The overview is clear and highlights the key differences between dinner and snacks as primary sources. You have accurately extracted data points, such as the 43% sodium in dinner and the 42% added sugar in snacks. The information is well-selected and logically grouped, ensuring the reader understands the trends without needing to refer back to the source data constantly. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed accurately, as there is a minor typo with '265' instead of '26%'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You have used paragraphing effectively to separate the overview from the detailed analysis of the nutrients. Cohesive devices such as 'overall', 'in contrast', and 'the second largest contributor' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the comparison. The flow between sentences is smooth, and the referencing is generally clear. To improve, ensure that punctuation is consistent, as there are minor issues with capitalization at the start of sentences and a repeated word ('a a') in the fourth paragraph, which slightly disrupts the professional flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have demonstrated a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information precisely. Terms such as 'proportion', 'contributor', 'dominant', and 'distribution' are used effectively in an academic context. The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the task. However, there are some minor slips, such as the typo '265' instead of '26%' and the repetition of 'a a'. While these do not impede communication, addressing these small errors and incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations related to data trends would help elevate the score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have demonstrated good control over basic grammar, and the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free. There are some minor mechanical errors, such as the lack of capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'the given three pie charts...') and the aforementioned typo. These are non-systematic errors that do not hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for capitalization and minor typographical errors to ensure the writing is polished and consistently accurate throughout.
