Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While the student identifies the main features of the three charts, the analysis is superficial and lacks a cohesive overview. The introduction is incomplete, and the response lacks a concluding summary or synthesis of the data. Because the response is only 89 words, it is impossible to provide a fully developed report that covers all parts of the task effectively. To improve, the student must expand on the comparisons between the nutrients and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed in full.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is fragmented and lacks a logical structure. The use of paragraphing is inconsistent, and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together. Phrases like 'Turning to the first chart' and 'Moving towards third chart' are mechanical and repetitive. The overall progression of ideas is weak because the response is too short to establish a clear flow of information. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that contributes to a logical summary of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. The student relies on simple phrasing such as 'highest number of percentage' and 'lowest sodium percentage'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'significant', or 'marginal'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'draw the conclusion of' which is not the correct collocation for introducing a report on charts. To improve, the student should incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data analysis and avoid repeating the same sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is frequently incorrect, such as 'sodium are highest' and 'dinner have highest'. The sentence structures are simple and lack variety. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and incomplete sentences. The lack of complex sentence structures limits the potential for a higher band score. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic subject-verb agreement and practice using a mix of simple and complex sentences to describe trends and comparisons more accurately.
