Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key percentages for the nutrients across the four meal categories. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview of the trends. The student correctly identifies the highest and lowest values, but the interpretation of the data is occasionally confusing, such as the claim that 'the highest amount of salubrious used in breakfast is saturated fat and added sugar with 16%'. The term 'salubrious' is used incorrectly throughout the text, which obscures the meaning of the data. While the main features are reported, the lack of precise comparisons and the misuse of terminology limit the clarity of the task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into four paragraphs, which is a logical structure for a report. Cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'whereas', and 'overall' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices makes the progression feel somewhat mechanical rather than fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by varying the sentence starters and connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and contains significant errors in word choice. The most notable issue is the repeated misuse of the word 'salubrious' (meaning health-giving or healthy) to describe nutrients that are explicitly stated as unhealthy. Additionally, 'exponential ingredients' is used incorrectly to describe percentages. While the student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, the lack of understanding of these terms impedes communication. Basic vocabulary is sufficient to convey the data, but the frequent misuse of higher-level words prevents a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in typical food of day to day life'), subject-verb agreement issues ('The given pie charts reveals'), and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors occur frequently. The attempt at complex sentences is present, but the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns.
