Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the highest and lowest values for the three nutrients. However, the presentation of data is often confusing and inaccurate. For instance, the statement '14% snacks' for sodium does not clearly relate to the chart data, and the comparison between nutrients is muddled. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the reporting of figures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on grouping data logically (e.g., by meal type or nutrient) and ensuring that the figures cited are clearly linked to the correct category. The response addresses the prompt but lacks the precision required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical or misused (e.g., 'In case of sodium instead', 'second hand dinner'). The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data. While there is an attempt at an overall structure, the lack of clear progression and the repetitive nature of the phrasing hinder the coherence of the response. More varied and accurate linking words are needed to connect ideas effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'figure', 'lower', and 'more than'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'saturated salt' (instead of saturated fat) and 'both consumers'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more specific terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'account for', 'constitute', and 'peak at', while ensuring that technical terms are used accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('lunch have', 'saturated fat have'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures ('the rendered chart depicts the information about...'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty or incomplete, leading to confusion. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles correctly before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
