Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to clearly identify the main features or provide accurate comparisons. The description of the data is often confusing, such as the mention of 'farmer' and 'latter' in relation to sodium, which does not appear in the source material. The report lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the data points provided are frequently inaccurate or difficult to follow. To improve, you must focus on accurately transcribing the figures from the charts and grouping them logically to highlight significant differences or similarities, rather than listing data points in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay suffers from significant issues with logical progression and paragraphing. The text is repetitive, as the student includes the same introductory and body paragraphs twice. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'Movingahead' and 'Besidethis'. The lack of clear paragraph structure and the repetition of content make it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and avoid repeating information. Use linking words more naturally to connect ideas rather than just placing them at the start of sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are numerous spelling errors, such as 'theavrage', 'priece', and 'resper'. The word choice is frequently inappropriate for an academic report, such as 'vivid' to describe the chart or the confusing use of 'farmer' and 'latter'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data precisely. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing charts, such as 'a significant proportion', 'a minor discrepancy', or 'the figures for...'. Proofreading for basic spelling errors is also essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'The maximum percentage of typical meals consumed in the usa was in dinner ,while the minimum in snacks', which lacks a clear subject-verb relationship in the second clause. Punctuation is inconsistent, with many misplaced commas and missing spaces. The use of complex structures is attempted but often results in ungrammatical phrases. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb—and practice correct punctuation and capitalization.
