Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student provides a clear overview of the data presented in the pie chart, noting the main features relevant to the nutrients' distribution. However, the response lacks a cohesive structure, leading to confusion in presenting relationships between the different food types. For instance, while they mention sodium's high presence in dinner, this comparison could be better emphasized. The overall task is completed, yet greater focus on summarizing key trends and making clearer comparisons would strengthen their response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The coherence of the response is moderate, with some logical flow in the information presented. However, the structure could benefit from clearer paragraphing and linking phrases to guide the reader. For example, transitions between discussing different nutrients could be improved (e.g., 'firstly,' 'secondly,' 'additionally') to enhance readability. The use of 'on the other hand' is appropriate, but clearer distinctions between the different nutrient categories would help the reader follow the argument better.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical resource shows an adequate range of vocabulary, yet some word choices are imprecise or informal (e.g., "consumes minimum" should be "is consumed the least"). There are some noticeable errors in word forms and collocations that impact the clarity of the response. Phrases like "having maximum percentage in dinner" are awkward and should be refined for better clarity. Overall, the vocabulary used is suitable for the context, but a higher level of sophistication is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical accuracy is a significant area that needs improvement. There are various errors, such as "the pie chart illustrate" which should be "the pie chart illustrates," and issues with tense and pluralization (e.g., "all of which be unhealthy" and "consume too much" should be "consumed too much"). The sentence structures tend to be repetitive and could benefit from more variety to demonstrate a higher grammatical range. Overall, while the meaning is often clear, grammatical errors sometimes impede understanding.
Overall feedback
Your response addresses the task requirements but could benefit from a clearer structure. Consider organizing your writing into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences that outline each nutrient's role or impact. This will improve coherence and make your argument easier to follow. Additionally, take time to refine your vocabulary and grammatical accuracy to enhance clarity. Try using more precise language and varying your sentence structures. Regular practice and review of grammar can also help improve your scores in these areas.
