Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends for sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar across the four meal categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the highest and lowest points, you miss opportunities to make more sophisticated comparisons, such as noting the specific proportions or the contrast between the nutrients. The overview is integrated into the final paragraph rather than being presented as a clear summary at the beginning, which is a standard requirement for Task 1. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends in the introduction and use more precise data points to support your descriptions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Phrases like 'If we see' are used repeatedly, which makes the writing feel mechanical. There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. For example, the transition between the discussion of sodium and saturated fat is abrupt. To improve, use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'whereas' to create a smoother progression of ideas and better connect your observations.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'taken' and 'eaten' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'taking of sodium is much more taken' and 'highly taken in Snacks.' These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'consumed,' 'accounted for,' 'constitute,' or 'proportion,' and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Issues include missing articles ('the breakfast'), incorrect verb forms ('people ten to eat'), and awkward phrasing ('the most dangerously the snacks they eat'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper commas or capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent use of articles, and proofreading for basic sentence structure errors.
