Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the charts. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesizing information effectively. There are inaccuracies in the interpretation of the data; for instance, the student mentions '46% of total nutrients' in breakfast, which is not clearly supported by the provided charts. Additionally, the comparison between categories is inconsistent, and the conclusion is slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on grouping data points logically—such as identifying the highest and lowest values across all categories—rather than describing each meal type in isolation. Ensure that all data points mentioned are accurately reflected in the source material to avoid misinterpretation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response uses basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Now at the last', which creates a somewhat mechanical flow. Paragraphing is absent, as the entire response is written as a single block of text, which hinders readability. While there is a logical progression from breakfast to dinner, the lack of paragraph breaks makes the structure feel cluttered. To reach a higher band, use more sophisticated linking words and phrases to connect ideas, and ensure the essay is divided into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of main trends, and body paragraphs that group related data points together.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'camparisons', 'sigar', 'iis', and 'comsumed'. The phrasing is often repetitive, relying heavily on 'the amount of'. To improve, incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'constitute', 'account for', and 'fluctuate'. Avoid informal phrasing like 'lets talk about' and 'Now at the last', which are inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Focusing on accurate spelling and using more academic collocations will significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there is camparisons', 'meals that consumed', and 'the huge amount of nutrients consumed by the USA local'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring correct verb forms and consistent use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
