Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the highest and lowest values for each nutrient. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 'dinner recorded the maximum share of all nutrients' is not fully supported by the data for added sugar, where snacks are the primary source. Additionally, the inclusion of personal opinion in the final sentence ('US citizen diet is improper') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires an objective summary of the data provided. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant trends across the three categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'More towards added sugar' are non-standard and awkward. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', the logical progression between sentences is sometimes disrupted by grammatical errors and unclear referencing. The flow of information is occasionally disjointed, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the three nutrients effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic information, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'USA eating diet', 'majority of part hold by', and 'it carry'. The term 'improper' is used repeatedly, which limits the lexical variety. Spelling errors, such as 'Futhermore' and 'there' (instead of 'their'), also detract from the overall quality of the writing. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is frequently incorrect, such as 'The charts illustrates' and 'it carry'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrasing, for example, 'in USA eating diet'. The sentence 'For saturated fat snacks holds 21 5' contains a typo and a structural error that impedes clarity. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
