The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The charts visualize the average percentages of three nutrient types present in typical meals , all of which may be unhealthy in case of overconsumption.

In USA, sodium accounts for the highest average percentage in dinner and lowest share in breakfast and snacks. Saturated fat holds the highest share in dinner and lowest in breakfast. Added sugar is found mostly in snacks and has lowest share in breakfast.

An average of 43% sodium is present in dinner which is the highest percentage, followed by 29% in lunch. The lowest figures are 14% in both breakfast and snacks. Similarly, the average percentage of saturated fat is also highest in dinner with 37%, followed by 26% in lunch and 21% in snacks. The lowest proportion is in breakfast accounting for only 16%.

42% of added sugar is present in snacks which is the highest share. 23% of it is there in dinner, followed by 19% in lunch. The lowest share of 16% is seen in breakfast.
