The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The pie chart illustrates the amount of three different types of nutrients found in typical meals consumed by Americans, which may be unhealthy if eaten excessively.

Overall, it is evident that dinner contains the highest percentage of sodium and saturated fats, while snacks contain the highest amount of added sugar. Lunch is the only meal with a more balanced distribution of the three nutrients.

Breakfast contains a moderate quantity of the three nutrients with 14% of sodium and 16% each of saturated fats and added sugar. Lunch on the other hand shows a significant increase across all three nutrients. Sodium experienced a sharp rise from breakfast to 29%, followed by saturated fats at 26% and added sugar at 19%.

For dinner, both sodium and saturated fat peaked with 43% and 37% respectively, with a slight increase in added sugar as well. However, snacks contained 42% of added sugar, greatest amount amongst all other meals, with sodium and saturated fat also contributing moderately.
