Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the three nutrients and provided data for each, the report lacks an overview or a summary of the main trends, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The information is presented as a list of data points rather than a cohesive summary. Furthermore, the inclusion of redundant information (repeating the breakfast percentage for added sugar) and the lack of comparative analysis (e.g., noting that dinner is the highest for sodium and saturated fat) prevent a more comprehensive response. To improve, ensure you include a clear overview paragraph and synthesize the data rather than listing it.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organization is quite mechanical and lacks logical progression. While you have attempted to group the information by nutrient, the paragraphs are disjointed and lack effective cohesive devices to link ideas. The use of transitions is repetitive (e.g., 'the first element', 'the second category', 'the third category'), which makes the writing feel like a list rather than a report. There is also a lack of paragraphing structure, with a large amount of whitespace at the end of the text. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words such as 'in contrast', 'conversely', or 'while', and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that introduces the trend rather than just the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'is' and 'consumed'. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or data points (e.g., 'account for', 'constitute', 'peak at', 'the majority of'). The phrase 'intaken in dinner' is non-standard; 'consumed' or 'accounted for' would be more appropriate. To reach a higher band, try to vary your verbs and nouns to describe the data more precisely. For example, instead of saying 'the consumption of sodium is 29%', you could say 'sodium intake accounts for 29% of the total'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors and punctuation issues. There are many run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'The first element is sodium in breakfast consumption of sodium [Na] is 14% consumption of sodium in snacks is same as that of breakfast.' The lack of proper sentence boundaries makes the text difficult to follow. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While some simple sentences are clear, there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Focus on using full stops to separate independent clauses and ensure that your subjects and verbs agree correctly.
