Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the highest and lowest values for each nutrient. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive overview of the trends. While you have selected key data points, the comparison between the categories could be more sophisticated. For instance, instead of listing percentages, you could group the nutrients by their primary sources (e.g., dinner being the main contributor to sodium and saturated fat). The introduction is slightly inaccurate, as it refers to 'three pie chart' (plural error) and the summary of the data is a bit repetitive. To improve, focus on synthesizing the information rather than just reporting individual figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. You rely heavily on 'while' and 'and', which makes the flow feel mechanical. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'has same respectively in both', which is grammatically confusing and makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Using a wider range of linking words like 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore' (used correctly) would help improve the flow and logical connection between your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use 'has', 'percentage', and 'amount' to describe the data. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'has same respectively' and 'added sugar has small amount 23%'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'a significant proportion', or 'a marginal share'. Additionally, ensure you use the correct terminology for the charts, such as 'the three pie charts illustrate'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures with frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'dinner have', 'breakfast have'), missing articles (e.g., 'in the chart of sodium'), and incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'three pie chart'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper capitalization or containing run-on structures. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors impact the overall readability. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex structures.
