Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the charts. You have successfully highlighted the key trends, such as the high levels of sodium and saturated fat in dinner and the dominance of sugar in snacks. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While you have included the necessary figures, the comparison between categories could be more sophisticated. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview paragraph provides a more comprehensive summary of the data trends rather than just stating the maximums. The data is generally accurate, but the presentation of the information is somewhat mechanical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Following this' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Following this' to introduce a new category of meal. The progression of ideas is logical, but the internal cohesion within sentences is occasionally weak due to grammatical errors, which makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in a more natural, context-appropriate way would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the charts clearly. You use terms like 'depicts', 'average ratio', and 'saturated fats' correctly. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'are including in the dinner', 'is involving in snacks', and 'sodium regard for 14%'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and collocations (e.g., 'account for' instead of 'regard for', 'is included' instead of 'is including'). Expanding your range of descriptive language would also help you move to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues with subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction are common, such as 'sugar and saturated fat combines' and 'are includes in meals'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, pay closer attention to verb forms and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound, particularly when using passive voice or describing statistical data.
