The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie charts illustrates the average percentage of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar used in USA's typical meals, all of them might be detrimental for health if consumed in large quantities.

Overall, it is noticeable that all three items were least used in breakfast compared to other meals. However, sodium and saturated fats had the highest percentage in dinner, whereas added sugar was more used in snacks.

Looking at the information in detail, Sodium was majorly used in dinner, with 43%. Around one-fourth of it was used in lunch. 14% sodium was used in both breakfast and snacks.

Saturated fats covered a major proportion of dinner whereas the least proportion in breakfast, 37% and 16%, respectively. Around one-fourth of saturated fat was used in snacks and lunch.

Added sugar was most used in snacks (42%), followed by 23% of its use in dinner. 19% and 16% of added sugar was used in lunch and breakfast, respectively.
