Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a cohesive summary of the trends. You have successfully highlighted the highest and lowest values, such as dinner being the highest in sodium and saturated fat, but the presentation of data is repetitive. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and extend your analysis by grouping data points more logically rather than listing them sentence by sentence. The failure to reach the word count necessitates a lower band score as the task is not fully completed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow between sentences is weak. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all' and 'On the other side', but these are often used incorrectly or repetitively. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different meal types effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use the same phrases, such as 'highest in' and 'in sodium', which restricts the range of your writing. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. For instance, instead of repeating 'highest', you could use terms like 'predominant', 'account for the largest proportion', or 'peak'. To achieve a higher band, try to vary your vocabulary and use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'constitute', 'comprise', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'dinner highest in sodium is 43% and same highest in saturated fat 37%', which lacks a proper verb. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and struggle with accurate punctuation and article usage. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence contains a clear subject and a main verb. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions is essential.
