Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the three nutrients across the four meal types. You have successfully highlighted the highest and lowest values, such as sodium in dinner and added sugar in snacks. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesising them into a more cohesive overview. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more analytical—for example, noting that sodium is the dominant nutrient in dinner and lunch, whereas sugar dominates snacks. The overview is present but could be more clearly separated from the body paragraphs to better highlight the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the data, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'It is clear that' and 'In conclusion', but the flow between sentences is sometimes repetitive, relying heavily on 'consumption is' or 'is consumed'. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the data points in the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases would help improve the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the data points accurately. You use terms like 'nutrient', 'consumption', and 'saturated fat' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is significant repetition of phrases like 'consumption is' and 'is consumed'. To improve, try to vary your verbs and nouns—for example, using 'intake', 'levels', 'account for', or 'comprise'. There are no major spelling errors, but the lack of lexical variety prevents a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts shows', 'added sugar and saturated fat has same') and missing articles ('in dinner', 'in breakfast'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage. Incorporating more complex structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases, would also enhance your grammatical range.
