Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided relevant comparisons. You covered all four meal categories and the three nutrients. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention that dinner has high percentages, you could have provided a more comprehensive summary by noting the most significant trends, such as added sugar peaking in snacks while sodium and saturated fat peak at dinner. The inclusion of the phrase 'if we consume so much then it may be harmful for our body' is unnecessary as it introduces external information not present in the data. To reach a higher band, ensure your overview focuses strictly on the data trends rather than adding commentary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific meal type. You use some cohesive devices such as 'in terms of', 'regarding', and 'with regards to' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is somewhat mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved; the current structure is a bit repetitive in its sentence construction. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural rather than just listing the data point by point. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated signposting.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'proportion', 'nutrients', and 'illustrate'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'percentage' and 'higher/lower than others'. To achieve a higher band, you should demonstrate a more flexible range of vocabulary by using synonyms such as 'figures', 'levels', 'exceeds', 'surpasses', or 'is significantly lower'. While your word choice is accurate enough to communicate the data effectively, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'average proportion in standard meals of three types of nutrients' which is slightly awkward, and the use of 'respectively' is misused in the context of '16%'. Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'the percentage of sodium is 29%, which is higher than other nutrients'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more control over complex structures. Focusing on sentence variety and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
