Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the three nutrients across the four meal categories. You have successfully highlighted the key trends, such as dinner having the highest percentages and breakfast the lowest. However, the overview is slightly weak; it mentions that dinner is high and breakfast is low but fails to synthesize the most striking contrast, such as the high added sugar in snacks compared to other meals. The data is generally accurate, though the structure is somewhat repetitive, listing percentages meal by meal rather than grouping them to highlight significant comparisons more effectively. To reach a higher band, focus on grouping data points to draw clearer analytical comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'in terms of', 'regarding', and 'with regards to', to transition between ideas. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to avoid the 'list-like' feel of the data presentation. The progression of ideas is clear, but the lack of sophisticated referencing makes the text feel slightly disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'nutrients', 'excessive', and 'saturated fat' correctly. There is some repetition of phrases such as 'percentage of' and 'higher than others', which limits the sophistication of the writing. You attempt to use some specific terminology, which is good, but the overall lexical range is somewhat restricted. To improve, try to vary your verbs and nouns to describe trends—for example, using 'account for', 'constitute', or 'predominate' instead of repeatedly stating 'the percentage is'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate and communication is never impeded, there are some minor issues with punctuation and phrasing, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction and the slightly awkward phrasing 'in terms of dinner meal'. You use some complex structures, but they are often repetitive in their construction. To achieve a higher band, aim for more varied sentence beginnings and ensure that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to enhance the flow and precision of your writing.
