Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the three nutrients across the four meal types. You have successfully highlighted key trends, such as the high levels of nutrients in dinner and the specific dominance of added sugar in snacks. However, the report could be improved by better grouping of data to facilitate clearer comparisons. For instance, instead of listing percentages meal by meal, you could compare the nutrients across all meals more effectively. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the most significant contrast, such as the stark difference between dinner and breakfast nutrient levels.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'Regarding', and 'With regards to', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the lunch and snack descriptions is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'nutrients', and 'illustrate'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'percentage' and 'higher/lower than others'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'percentage', you could use 'levels', 'proportions', 'figures', or 'quantities'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'which is highest as compared to other nutrients', which could be expressed more concisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the average proportion in standard meals of three types of nutrients' (which is slightly clunky) and 'the percentage of both saturated fat and added sugar is 16%, respectively' (where 'respectively' is used incorrectly as the values are identical). Punctuation is generally sound, but ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with precision to avoid ambiguity. The majority of your sentences are clear, and errors do not impede communication.
