Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The data presentation is confusing; for example, the figures cited for sodium and saturated fat in dinner (29% and 26%) do not clearly align with the provided charts, and the comparison between meals is underdeveloped. The response lacks a logical selection of main features, and the inaccuracies in reporting the data significantly hinder the reader's understanding of the charts. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends—such as which nutrient is highest in each meal—and ensure the data points are transcribed accurately from the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, as it is essentially one long, disjointed block of text. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Apart from that' and 'where as', their usage is often mechanical or grammatically incorrect, which disrupts the flow of information. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the comparisons between the three meals are not clearly delineated. To reach a higher band, you should organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs that group the data logically by meal or nutrient type.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'Soduim' instead of 'sodium', 'suger' instead of 'sugar', and 'Overcall' instead of 'Overall'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data with precision, relying on repetitive phrasing like 'is taken' and 'is taken in'. There is also an issue with word choice, such as 'excesive amount which as compare to other', which is awkward and lacks clarity. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'proportion', and 'significant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'added suger have been taken', and incorrect sentence structures, such as 'where are added suger is taken'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and inconsistent capitalization. The range of sentence structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed compound sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using correct punctuation to separate clauses. Practicing the use of complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your range.
