Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively identifies the main features of the charts. You have successfully selected key data points and made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the high levels of sodium and saturated fat in dinner with the high added sugar content in snacks. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the trends. All parts of the prompt are addressed, and the information is accurate based on the provided charts. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently highlight the most significant differences rather than listing every single figure, as this helps to better synthesize the information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'conversely', and 'by contrast' are used appropriately to link ideas and show relationships between the data sets. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is logical. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be slightly more varied to enhance the flow. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'accounted for the largest proportion' and 'represented the largest percentage' are used accurately. There is some repetition of basic verbs like 'made up' and 'had'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for describing data, such as 'constituted', 'comprised', or 'accounted for'. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, using more precise collocations would elevate the response to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are a few minor slips, such as 'The figures for sodium and saturated fat in lunch was' (should be 'were') and 'repectively' (spelling error). The use of comparative structures is generally accurate. To achieve a higher score, ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent and aim for a slightly wider variety of complex grammatical structures to demonstrate greater control.
