Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the charts. You have successfully highlighted the highest values, such as the 43% sodium in dinner and 42% added sugar in snacks. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the data trends, and the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner. While you have selected key data points, the comparison between the nutrient categories could be more analytical. To reach a higher band, ensure that you group information logically rather than listing percentages meal by meal, and provide a more cohesive summary of the overall trends observed in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'moreover' and 'additionally'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'After that is added sugar', which lacks a clear link to the previous sentence. While the paragraphing is present, the internal flow within paragraphs is weak. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'consume' or 'used' to describe the data, which limits the precision of your report. There are also noticeable errors in word form and collocation, such as 'to ate too much typical meals' instead of 'eating too much of typical meals'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety in your lexical range prevents a higher score. Incorporating more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis would enhance the quality of your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('piecharts illustrates'), incorrect verb forms ('is consume'), and awkward sentence construction ('it also describes that how much nutrients are used'). These errors are persistent and occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing data. Reducing these frequent errors is necessary to move into the higher band range.
