Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical selection of key features. The information is presented in a fragmented manner, and the comparisons are often confusing or inaccurate (e.g., stating snacks and breakfast are equal for sodium when the data suggests otherwise). The inclusion of personal opinion in the final paragraph is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires an objective summary. The description of the data is often imprecise, making it difficult for the reader to follow the trends without referring constantly to the original charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a logical flow. While there are paragraph breaks, the internal structure of the paragraphs is disjointed. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and' to link unrelated ideas. The referencing is unclear, and the progression of ideas is not evident. The final paragraph is disconnected from the rest of the report, and the overall arrangement of information does not facilitate a clear understanding of the data presented in the charts.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There is a frequent misuse of basic terms, such as 'highly rise' instead of 'a significant increase' or 'the least down' instead of 'the lowest proportion'. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'percentage', 'proportion', 'category'). Many phrases are awkward or unidiomatic, which hinders the clarity of the report. To improve, the student needs to learn specific collocations for describing charts and graphs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The chart show'), sentence structure (e.g., run-on sentences and fragments), and preposition usage. Complex sentence structures are largely absent, and the attempts at them are consistently faulty. Punctuation is also problematic, with a lack of clear sentence boundaries. The high frequency of errors throughout the text makes it difficult to read and understand the intended meaning.
