Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high consumption of sodium and fat at dinner and sugar in snacks. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis is somewhat repetitive and lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated. Due to the under-length penalty and the lack of depth in comparing the data points, the response is limited in its ability to fully develop the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'In sodium chart and saturated fat', 'among while this figure'). The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While there is a logical attempt to group the data by nutrient type, the transitions between sentences are not always smooth, and the referencing of data points is occasionally confusing, which affects the overall flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic terms like 'consumed', 'highest', and 'lowest'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'The three pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the consumption which of adding sugar'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms for 'consumption' and 'percentage' and ensure correct word forms are used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('charts illustrates'), incorrect passive voice construction ('people are consumed sodium'), and awkward sentence structures ('The consumption which of adding sugar is lowest in breakfast which 16% in the Us'). There is a limited range of complex structures, and those attempted are often inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and capitalization. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement to improve accuracy.
