Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to identify the main features of the charts, the analysis is incomplete and contains factual inaccuracies (e.g., stating that all three nutrients are lowest in dinner, which contradicts the data). The summary lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the data reporting is inconsistent and confusing. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, accurate summary of the main trends and support your points with precise data points while meeting the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by inaccurate data reporting and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In lunch' and 'In dinner and snacks', but they are often followed by unclear or contradictory information. The progression of ideas is not always logical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different meal types. To improve, focus on using transition signals more effectively to link your observations and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'proportion', 'held', and 'amount'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'typical nutrients' instead of 'types of nutrients' and 'presented least' instead of 'accounted for the smallest proportion'. Some errors, such as 'saturate fat' instead of 'saturated fat', indicate a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'constitute', 'comprise', and 'predominant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Sodium proportion are', 'dinner held largest portion'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex attempts. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms.
