Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high sodium content at dinner and the peak of added sugar in snacks. However, the report is marred by inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state that sodium consumption at breakfast and snacks is the same at 14%, but the chart shows different values. Additionally, the description of the data is somewhat mechanical, listing percentages without fully synthesizing the information to provide a clear comparative overview. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed accurately and that the overview highlights the most significant differences between the nutrient categories more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. However, the use of these markers is sometimes repetitive and mechanical. Furthermore, some sentences lack clear logical flow, such as the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the connection between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a more natural progression of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'catagories', 'inclueded', 'satuated', 'nutriants') and awkward word choices. Phrases like 'commoners are consuming' are not appropriate for an academic report. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is limited, and the errors in word formation occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using precise terminology for data description and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('these all are can be highly affected'), subject-verb agreement errors ('most consumed of nutrients eat at dinner'), and awkward phrasing ('which rate is 43%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impede the flow of the text. Increasing the accuracy of basic sentence construction should be your primary focus.
