Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high sodium intake at dinner and the peak sugar consumption during snacks. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks a clear synthesis of the data. While the response addresses all parts of the task, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise, such as the claim that snacks and breakfast have the same sodium consumption rate, which is not clearly supported by the visual data. The summary would benefit from a more analytical approach to comparing the three nutrients rather than simply listing percentages for each meal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific nutrient. There is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'regarding for Saturated fat' or 'sequentially, the rate is... gradually'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is sometimes awkward, which occasionally disrupts the flow of information. Improved control over linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'commoners are consuming', 'nutrients in meal slightly upper', and 'all over the nutrients'. Spelling errors like 'satuarated' and 'nutriants' also occur. While the student successfully uses terms like 'proportion', 'respectively', and 'percentage', the range is limited, and the errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the information being presented.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('these meals consumed added sugar'), incorrect preposition usage ('regarding for'), and awkward sentence construction ('which rate is 43%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence structure and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is required.
