Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends such as the high sodium content at dinner and the peak of added sugar in snacks. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the data as a whole, and the description of the charts is slightly inaccurate (mentioning four types of meals when the charts show four categories of nutrients across four meal types). While the main features are highlighted, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing percentages rather than synthesizing the information effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview clearly summarizes the most significant trends across all three charts without merely listing data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as the frequent use of 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'moreover' to start paragraphs. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the sequence of 'breakfast, lunch and dinner' is described as 'sequentially' but the data points provided do not follow a clear logical progression in the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother would enhance the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'commoners are consuming' and 'the rate is... gradually'. The spelling of 'satuated' (saturated) and 'nutriants' (nutrients) indicates a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'which rate is 43%' (should be 'which accounts for 43%'), 'snacks and breakfast consume rate is same' (should be 'the consumption rate for snacks and breakfast is the same'), and 'these meals consumed added sugar sequentially'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
