Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts by reporting data for sodium, saturated fats, and sugar across four different meal types. However, the summary lacks an overall overview comparing the nutrients as a whole, which is a key requirement for Task 1. There are also some minor data reporting inaccuracies or unclear groupings, such as combining breakfast and snacks for sodium ('14% in breakfast meal and snack time'). The final sentence wanders into a general statement about health consequences that is not directly depicted in the visual data. Overall, the response addresses the prompt partially, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into separate paragraphs for each nutrient, which provides a basic logical structure. However, the progression within paragraphs is somewhat mechanical, listing data points sequentially without sophisticated linking devices. Cohesive devices are minimal or slightly repetitive, and referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'If any of the quantity is taken...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the concluding health remark feels disjointed from the rest of the data description. Cohesion and logical flow align best with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'nutrients', 'sodium', 'saturated fats', and 'added sugar'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'ediquate' instead of 'adequate', and awkward phrasing like 'in average amount that is taken by humans' and 'higher amount'. Less common lexical items are attempted but often imprecise. Because these errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, the response fits Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as 'Sugar is needed in large amount by our body so it is taken in large amount every day.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and singular/plural forms (e.g., 'in large amount', 'a body need', 'dinner meal' instead of 'dinners'). Passive and active voice shifts are occasionally awkward. Because errors are frequent and can cause some difficulty, the writing aligns with Band 5.0.
