Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate attempts to cover the main features of the charts, providing an overview and selecting data points to report. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the text states that 'Snacks contain 43% sugar consumption which is very huge amount', whereas the chart clearly shows that snacks account for 42% of added sugar, while sodium at dinner is 43%. Similarly, the candidate misinterprets the data when stating 'In breakfast, percentage of these compounds are almost similar', overlooking the distinction between the three nutrients. While an overview is attempted, the confusion and minor data misinterpretations place this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific data. However, progression is frequently disjointed and mechanical. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Moreover, there is a slightest difference of consumption of these elements in lunch.' Paragraphing is attempted, but ideas within paragraphs are jumbled, particularly in the final paragraph where references to sodium, saturated fat, and sugar become confused and repetitive. This level of organisation and cohesion aligns with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, featuring basic terms related to nutrition such as 'nutrients', 'sodium', 'saturated fats', and 'proportions'. However, the range is limited and repetition occurs frequently, such as repeating 'consumption of these elements'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, including 'affects health when eaten in large quantity' instead of 'quantities', 'slightest difference' instead of 'slight difference', and 'high than others' instead of 'higher than others'. These inaccuracies sometimes cause strain for the reader, placing the lexical score at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response shows a limited mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms. Grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that impede clarity. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates'), missing articles ('in breakfast', 'in dinner'), and incorrect comparative forms ('high than others'). Furthermore, fragments and awkward phrasings such as 'in dinner, it consumption is low than others' demonstrate poor control over basic sentence structures. Because errors are frequent and recurrent across simple and complex structures, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
